Daily School Routine
Greenacres operates for a minimum of 33 weeks per academic year. School is open from 9.30am to 12.30pm every morning during term time (exact dates supplied regularly). We ask you to arrive no earlier than 9.20am in the cloakroom, as the classroom has to be prepared each day for the children. The children are not allowed to enter the classroom until 9.30am.
Parents and carers are asked to wait in the cloakroom at home-time ( 12.30pm). The classroom door is then opened and the children called one at a time to go into the cloakroom to be collected.
Lunch Club
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we offer an optional extended session for all children. The cost is currently £3 (payable on the day) and the children remain at school until 1.25pm. They bring their own packed lunch and enjoy a sociable meal time together and then games. To reserve a place, you fill in your child's name on the list in the cloakroom.
Illness
Please do not bring your child to school if they are ill, in order to prevent the other children being infected. Should your child be taken ill whilst at school, we will contact you (or the carer) and ask for them to be collected. In an emergency, when a parent's attendance cannot be immediate, it may be necessary for us to obtain treatment from a doctor or casualty department. We will ask you to sign a Consent form and bring it to school on your child's first visit.
Clothing
Please ensure your child wears comfortable, easy to manage clothes (no stiff buttons or dungarees) so that the child may use the toilet independently. The children will be working on the floor and sometimes taking part in messy activities, so please do not send them in any clothes that are not suitable. They should arrive in the classroom wearing their apron.
Daily requirements to be left with your child at school but taken home each day
- Soft soled indoor plimsolls or slippers
- Outdoor coat (in Winter months)
- Wellington boots (in wet weather)
- Break (see below)
- Apron (Available from school @ £10)
- School 'Bag' (These are made by the children at nursery)
Please ensure all your child's clothes and belongings are clearly marked.
Break Time
During break time, we will provide a drink, but ask each child to bring in their own snack. Please leave in a clearly labelled small Tupperware-type box or bag (NOT a ruck-sack or lunch box please as we have limited space) in the tray in the classroom. Break should consist of fruit, cheese, raisins etc. (NOT chocolate, biscuits, crisps or sweets please).
Discipline
We actively promote self-discipline within the classroom. This, together with the vertically-grouped class keeps the need for direct discipline measures to a minimum. When discipline is necessary - for example to stop a child hurting themselves or others, damaging property or stopping other children working, then our only measure is to remove the child from the cause and discuss their behaviour. The child is then kept near a teacher and asked to watch how the other children behave. We explain what is -and is not acceptable behaviour, and when the child feels they can behave in an appropriate way they are allowed to continue their activity or re-join the group. Continued inappropriate behaviour will be related to parents and a joint strategy discussed and implemented.
