Preparing your Child for Nursery
The term before starting Nursery, we will invite your child to spend a morning at school - only for a short session, so that they can settle in gradually. Talk to them about starting school and discuss all the new and existing friends they will meet and the fun things they may do.
On the first day of term, we ask you to bring your child along at 10am, after the initial rush and settling in of the other children. Please stay with your child until they are settled, then bid them farewell, assuring them of your return! There is a telephone at school, and you are welcome to telephone during the morning to check on their progress.
Subsequently, once your child is happy to be left at school, please help them remove their coat and change their shoes in the cloakroom, then accompany them into the classroom to find their name label and then say good-bye. When collecting at 12.30pm, please wait in the cloakroom for the door to open. The children are called out singly come to meet you in the cloakroom. We expect the same person to drop off and collect your child. If this is not to be the case, please leave details with one of the teachers
Children may start as soon as they reach 2 years 6 months. They can remain until they join a Reception class (usually between 4 and 5 years of age).
Children do not need to be potty trained to start nursery.
